HB 1787 Modifies qualifications for certain public offices

Current Bill Summary

- Prepared by Senate Research -

HCS/HB 1787 - This act modifies provisions relating to qualifications for certain public offices.

Current law requires the Attorney General to reside at the seat of government. This act repeals that requirement.

The act stipulates that no person shall be appointed to an elected public office who is delinquent in the payment of any state income tax, personal property tax, municipal tax, or real property tax.

The act additionally lowers the age requirement for serving in various local public offices to a minimum of 21 years of age.

This act is identical to certain provisions in HCS/SB 587 (2020) and substantially similar to HCS/HB 438 (2019).
