JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, R-Parkville, applauds the appointment of Platte County Sheriff Mark Owen to Missouri’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission. The sheriff’s appointment to the commission that licenses law enforcement officers in Missouri was confirmed by the Senate this week.
“I can think of no better man, or law enforcement officer to serve on this commission,” Sen. Luetkemeyer said. “Sheriff Owen will be a tremendous asset in this role, just as he has been in his capacity as sheriff of Platte County. I was proud to support his nomination and appear with him before the Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee.”
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Sheriff Owen rose through the ranks of the Platte County Sheriff’s Department before being elected as the county’s chief law enforcement officer in 2012. As sheriff, he oversees 100 deputies and 41 civilians, while operating a 180-bed county jail and supervising emergency dispatching services for Platte County police, fire and ambulance districts.
