I had the opportunity to meet with two incredible groups of students last week. I met with a group of FFA members from our community as well as students from Battle High School’s student council. Both of these groups expressed great interest in state government, and I really enjoyed listening to their ideas and discussing how the work done in the State Capitol affects our community. I would not be surprised if some day one of these bright students was sitting at my desk, representing our community in the Missouri General Assembly.
I was honored to receive the Henry S. Geyer Award, along with former Judge Ann Covington, from the Missouri Legislative Network of the Mizzou Alumni Association. This award recognizes the work of public officials and citizens who have made a positive impact on higher education and Mizzou. I am proud to support K-12 and higher education, and I am humbled by this recognition. Ms. Covington graduated from the MU School of Law and served as the first woman appointed to the Missouri Supreme Court, later serving as its first female chief justice. Since her retirement, she has dedicated her time to service and advocacy on behalf of the university and the MU family. This award is well-deserved, and I am thrilled Ms. Covington was recognized for her advocacy.
This year is an election year, so I would encourage you to check your voter registration and make sure your information is up to date. You can check your voter registration on the secretary of state’s website, and you can also find where your polling place is located. It is incredibly important to vote so your voice is heard in the upcoming election.
