As the 2020 legislative session moves into yet another month, we continue to move bills through the process. This legislation includes two measures I am watching closely this year.
One of the bills I filed, Senate Bill 578, would spell out the procedures for electronic and remote online notarization. This would update the statutes, which have not been updated in quite some time and would help move Notaries into the 21st century. Senate Bill 578 has been voted “do pass” by the Missouri Senate Local Government and Elections Committee and is now ready for consideration by the full Missouri Senate.
Another bill of interest is Senate Bill 591, which has earned first-round approval in the Missouri Senate. This measure relates to punitive damages, and I believe it represents another step toward getting Missouri’s tort laws in better shape. This is another in a long line of legislation aimed at making Missouri more competitive, so we can keep businesses thriving here, and bring more industry into our state for years to come.
We have now completed two months of this year’s legislative session, as we move toward our deadline of May 15, with a lot of work left to do. I will continue to keep you posted on our progress.
I am honored to serve as your senator in the Missouri Senate. If, at any time, you have questions, concerns or ideas regarding state government, please feel free to contact me at (573) 751-8793 or Sandy.Crawford@senate.mo.gov.
