Protecting Missourians from fraud is a priority. This is especially important for our senior citizens and the investments they have made with their hard-earned savings.
Senate Bill 654 addresses how securities are regulated in our state. More specifically, my proposal would enhance the Senior Savings Protection Act. Under current law, only qualified individuals are permitted to notify authorities of the financial exploitation or refuse disbursement of funds from the account of a senior citizen or person with a certain disability. This measure modifies the definition of “qualified individual” to include broker dealers and investment advisers. My goal, through this legislation, is to further protect seniors and to stiffen penalties against those who try to exploit elderly or disabled Missourians. Senate Bill 654 was heard in the Missouri Senate Insurance and Banking Committee this week.
Two more of my bills, Senate Bill 576 and Senate Bill 779, have been added to the Missouri Senate calendar. Senate Bill 576 insures county treasurers have access to documents they need. Senate Bill 779 modifies the regulation of residual insurance markets.
