JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Eric Burlison, R-Battlefield, presented Senate Concurrent Resolution 43 to the Senate Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics Committee this week. This resolution creates procedures for the appointment of commissioners to an Article V convention of the U.S. Constitution. This act also creates a Joint Legislative Committee that will submit names to the General Assembly to be considered for appointment to the convention, and the General Assembly will appoint commissioners from that list.
“It is important to have a procedure in place to choose commissioners to represent our state in the event of an Article V convention,” Sen. Burlison. “It only takes two-thirds of the states to call this convention, and it could occur at any time. It is imperative Missouri is ready to begin the process of choosing commissioners. Our state must be sufficiently represented at this important convention where we could potentially amend the U.S. Constitution.”
This week, the Senate passed Senate Bill 664, which adds call spoofing to the prohibited solicitations under the no-call list. The bill will now be sent to the House of Representatives for their consideration.
