Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer Congratulates Platte County STEM Scholars

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, R-Parkville, congratulates three outstanding high school students who intend to continue their education in fields of science, technology, engineering or math, or STEM. The students will each receive recognition during the 2020 STEM Signing Day, sponsored by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Inspired by signing ceremonies for athletes, STEM Signing Day begin in 2019 as a way to focus attention on young scholars. Scholarships will be awarded to 25 graduating high school students during this year’s “virtual” signing event, which will be livestreamed on the Missouri Chamber’s Facebook page at 11 a.m., Friday, June 26.

Three Platte County students from the class of 2020 are among the students selected statewide by the Chamber Foundation’s Mathematics and Science Coalition. Caroline Arensberg, a graduate of Park Hill High School, will study mechanical engineering at Missouri State University. Corey Marrs, also a Park Hills alum, will attend Missouri University of Science and Technology to study electrical and aeronautical engineering. Park Hill South graduate Jesse Heath will study computer science at the Maple Woods campus of Metropolitan Community College.

“It is pleasure to join the Missouri Chamber in recognizing these bright young people for their dedication to advanced studies,” Sen. Luetkemeyer said. “To succeed in the future, America must excel in science, technology, engineering and math. A signing ceremony sends a strong message that STEM students are the true champions of our nation’s future.”
