On Monday, Feb. 3, the Missouri Senate held its annual charity bowling tournament. Each year, senators and staff gather for a night of bowling and fellowship, but the purpose of this event is to raise money for a local charity or organization. This year, True North was chosen as the beneficiary of the bowling tournament. True North is an organization located in Columbia that provides a shelter and various services for individuals who have experienced domestic or sexual violence. We were able to raise over $14,000 for True North. I want to thank everyone who attended this event and donated to this important organization.
This week, I filed Senate Bill 970, which states that if a provision of federal law relating to the availability or pricing of coverage provided by private health insurance is overturned, that provision will remain in effect in Missouri until the Missouri General Assembly takes additional action. We need to ensure certainty and stability in the availability and coverage of health insurance in our state, and I believe this legislation accomplishes that goal. This bill contains an emergency clause, which means it will go in effect immediately if the General Assembly passes it and the governor signs it. I think this is an urgent issue, and I am ready to work hard with my colleagues to get this piece of legislation passed and sent to the governor’s desk.
