Sen. Eric Burlison’s Call Spoofing Legislation Passes the Missouri Senate

JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Eric Burlison, R-Battlefield, along with his fellow senators, passed Senate Bill 664 this week. This legislation adds call spoofing to the list of prohibited solicitations under the attorney general’s no-call list. Call spoofing occurs when a solicitor appears to be calling from a phone number that does not belong to them in order to encourage people to answer the phone.

“If you own a cell phone, you have probably experienced call spoofing,” Sen. Burlison said. “I filed this legislation to protect Missourians from this nuisance. I am hopeful this legislation will allow the attorney general’s office to find these bad actors and reduce this type of solicitation in our state.”

Senate Bill 664 will continue to move through the legislative process. The bill has been sent to the Missouri House of Representatives for their consideration.
