The first committees hear legislation for 2020. Among the first measures given committee time this year is Senate Joint Resolution 38. Senator Dan Hegeman of Cosby is sponsor, and says it would let voters decide on provisions regulating the Legislature to limit the influence of partisan or other special interests…
“The redistricting process, and this resolution keeps the duties to draw lines with the House and Senate independent, bipartisan citizens’ commission,” Sen. Hegeman said.
During the committee hearing, Sen. Karla May of St. Louis pointed out most concerns were addressed in the 2018 ballot question…
“Sometimes, it’s hard to get people to volunteer when they have to work and feed their family,” Sen. May said. “So, therefore, sometimes you have to get paid people to help in campaigns.”
The Missouri Senate Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics Committee has not yet taken action on Senate Joint Resolution 38.
