SB 271 - Currently, every February 12th is known as "Lincoln Day" and is a public holiday. This act repeals this holiday. The act further repeals the current designation of April 13th as "Jefferson Day". The act provides that every December 6th shall be "Emancipation Day" and shall be observed by the people so that the memory of the abolishment of slavery, with the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as an institution in this state and the United States may be perpetuated. Further, every December 6th shall be a public holiday. The act further designates the third Monday of February as "Presidents Day" and renames the second Monday in October from "Columbus Day" to "Native Americans' Day".
