SB 555 - Under this act, a public school board may purchase insurance contracts to insure against loss, damages, or expenses incident to a personal injury claim of any student injured on school premises or during school-sponsored activities, as defined in the act, and for travel to and from any work-based learning program, as defined in the act. A public school board may also purchase insurance contracts for the benefit of students to insure against the loss, theft, or damage of personal property while on school premises or during school-sponsored activities.

Any employer who accepts a student in grades 6-12 for a work-based learning program shall not be subject to civil liability for claims arising from the student's negligent act or omission, provided that such employer shall not have any immunity for gross negligence or willful misconduct.
