Senator Greg Razer Files COVID-19 Tax Relief Bill
JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Greg Razer, D-Kansas City, filed legislation that would exempt COVID-19 stimulus payments from being included in Missourians’ federal taxable income. Senate Bill 428 applies this tax exemption to COVID-19 stimulus funds approved by Congress and received between Jan. 1, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2021.
Senator Razer believes this bill is proactive and will provide tax relief to Missourians who receive COVID-19 stimulus payments throughout the year.
“Right now, many Missourians are struggling financially because of the pandemic, and for some, these stimulus checks are a lifeline,” said Sen. Razer. “While they worry about putting food on the table and keeping themselves and their families safe, they shouldn’t have to worry about a tax bill at the end of the year for aid passed by Congress. By passing SB 428, I believe we can provide some additional peace of mind to Missourians across the state, regardless of what Congress ends up doing in the year ahead.”
