Current Bill Summary

SB 1169 - Current law gives preference to a relative of a child by consanguinity or affinity when awarding third-party custody or visitation. This act adds a provision that such an award shall only be granted if a court deems the relative to be suitable and able to provide an adequate and stable environment for the child.

This act is similar to SB 1176 (2022).
