HB 284 -- ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSES

SPONSOR: Lewis (25)

This bill allows a plan of treatment followed by a home health agency to be reviewed and signed by an advanced practice registered nurse or a physician assistant. Current law only allows for a physician or podiatrist.

This bill removes the current requirement that Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) who have entered into collaborative practice agreements complete a one month period in which the APRN must practice with the collaborating physician continuously present. The bill still requires some period of practice with the physician continuously present, but does not specify the length of time required for that period.

This bill removes a requirement for APRNs to submit a minimum of 10% of the charts documenting the APRN's delivery of health care services to their collaborating physician for review.

Currently, APRNs providing nursing services under a collaborative practice arrangement must maintain geographic proximity with his or her collaborating physician, with certain exceptions. The bill removes the geographic proximity requirement.

This bill contains an emergency clause.

This bill is similar to HB 2383 (2022) and HB 1224 (2021).
