Current Bill Summary

SB 677 - Currently, associate circuit judges sitting as a small claims court may hear civil claims involving a monetary amount in controversy of less than $5,000. Additionally, current law provides that without assignment or transfer, associate circuit judges may hear actions in replevin, which provides for the recovery of personal property, if the value of the property is less than $25,000. This act provides that an associate circuit judge sitting as a small claims court may hear actions in replevin if the value is less than $5,000. Current rules of procedure for actions in replevin shall apply to any replevin action heard in small claims court.
