Current Bill Summary

SCS/SB 990 - This act modifies provisions relating to verification of disabilities.

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS FOR BLIND PENSIONS (Section 209.040)

This act modifies, from 5 years to 7 years, the frequency with which recipients of blind pensions are required to provide certification that they are blind, as defined for purposes of the pension.

The act also repeals language allowing the Department of Social Services to require reexamination of certain blind pensioners if there is reason to believe the person may not be blind.

These provisions are identical to HB 2675 (2024).

DISABLED LICENSE PLATES AND WINDSHIELD PLACARDS (Section 301.142)

This act specifies that if an applicant for a disabled person license plate or windshield placard has presented a physician's statement noting that the applicable physical disability is permanent, a physician's statement shall not be required in order to renew the plate or placard.

These provisions also make technical modifications to the underlying statute.

These provisions are similar to provisions in the truly agreed to and finally passed HCS/SS/SCS/SB 912 (2024), provisions in SCS/HCS/HB 1775 (2024), HB 1451 (2024), and SB 114 (2023).
