Current Bill Summary

SB 1421 - This act modifies provisions relating to the unlawful use of certain unmanned aircrafts over correctional centers, open-air facilities, and mental health hospitals.

Law enforcement officers are authorizes to take necessary mitigation measures, as described in the act, against an imminent threat posed by an unmanned aircraft system to public safety or when the system is involved in criminal activity.

The act modifies the offense of unlawful use of unmanned aircraft over an open-air facility to include the operation of an unmanned aircraft within the boundary of a critical infrastructure facility or within a certain distance of such a critical infrastructure facility in furtherance of any violation of criminal law.

Finally, any delivery of any explosive device or materials by an unmanned aircraft over an open-air facility or critical infrastructure facility shall be punished as a class B felony.

This act contains an emergency clause.
