The bill requires a court to grant a continuance in any civil or criminal proceeding when all parties consent. The court must then postpone the proceedings for such a time as the trial judge deems appropriate. Currently, Supreme Court rule 65.01 allows, but does not require, a court to grant a continuance for "good cause shown."
