HB 133 -- Teachers' Salaries
This bill offers salary schedule credit to public school teachers accepting employment with any other Missouri school district. Beginning with the 1995-96 school year, such teachers will receive credit for each year of service up to 5 years. For each school year thereafter, the maximum years credited will be increased in increments of one year, culminating in up to 10 years of credit for the 2000-2001 school year. School districts may offer credit for service in excess of this schedule.
Beginning with the 1995-96 school year, each school district employing 10 or more teachers is required to adopt an indexed salary schedule which includes all teachers in the district and shows the index value, the dollar amount, and the number of teachers on each cell of the schedule. Provisions are made to include additional pay for additional duties.
The bill permits school districts to adopt separate salary schedules for administrators but requires that they be indexed to the teachers' schedule. Regardless of whether a district adopts a separate schedule for administrators, the average percentage salary increase of returning administrators cannot exceed that of returning teachers.
School districts must annually submit copies of current salary schedules to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. All salary schedules are considered public records.
