HB 154 -- POLITICAL PARTY COMMITTEES
SPONSOR: Hosmer
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 16 to 0, 1 present.
This bill requires the county courthouse in all second and third class counties to be made available for certain political party meetings at no charge to the party committee.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the county courthouse is often the only adequate facility for political party committee meetings that are mandated by statute. Other facilities may not be available in the evenings, and private residences are too small. It is wrong for the public to have to pay to use a courthouse that is supported by tax dollars for a meeting that is required by law.
Testifying for the bill were Representative Hosmer; and Dade County Democratic Central Committee.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
