HB 213 -- Sheltered Workshop Tax Levies
This bill allows the board of directors of a county's sheltered workshop to determine annually the rate of the county's property tax levy that will benefit the sheltered workshop. The county's voters must approve the tax and the board's rate cannot exceed the maximum rate authorized by the voters. The rate approved by the voters can be no higher than four-tenths of a cent per dollar of assessed property valuation. This bill does not apply to Jackson County, St. Louis County, or the City of St. Louis. A sheltered workshop is an occupation-oriented facility that, except for its staff, employs only people with disabilities and is operated by a not-for-profit corporation.
