HB 521 -- CHIROPRACTIC
SPONSOR: O'Connor
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Science, Technology and Critical Issues by a vote of 13 to 4.
This bill expands the definition of chiropractic to include treatment within inpatient and outpatient settings.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill allows chiropractors to practice in all health care settings. In addition, hospitals would be permitted to place chiropractors on the medical staff.
Testifying for the bill were Representative O'Connor; Missouri State Chiropractors Association; and Department of Health.
OPPONENTS: Those who oppose the bill say that the bill does not change much. Currently, hospitals can allow a chiropractor on staff if they decide to do so. Also, the bill allows chiropractors to advise and instruct on disease, which is in the parameters of the practice of medicine.
Testifying against the bill was the Missouri State Medical Association.
