HB 599 -- Psychiatric Services

This bill authorizes the distribution of educational information to inform the public and released patients from a mental health facility of the symptoms of common mental illnesses. This booklet will list available educational, community, and statewide services, the information line of the Department of Mental Health, and laws and procedures regarding civil detention and guardianship to the patient and the caregiver.

Confidential treatment information may be provided where necessary to the appropriate care and safety of the patient. Written notice will be sent to the patient prior to such disclosure. The written consent of the patient will be requested but not necessary for the disclosure. The Department of Mental Health will maintain an information line to direct the public to community resources in their area concerning mental illness.
