HB 629 -- Board of Police Commissioners
This bill expands the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners from 4 to 6 commissioners. Rules are detailed for their staggered integration into the board. The governor will appoint one of the new commissioners from a list of retired police officers submitted by the Kansas City Police Retirement Board and one from a list selected by the Mayor of Kansas City from a list submitted by the city council. The initial appointments to the commission are limited to a service period of one consecutive full term.
Membership on The Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission is increased from 9 to 10 members. The new position on the commission is created for an officer with a rank no greater than sergeant.
