HCS/SCS/SB 514 - This act makes it a crime, except in certain instances, to knowingly leave the scene where serious physical injury or death has occurred.
A person who causes a serious physical injury or death, due to an accident or negligence, must give his name and address to the police at the scene or to the nearest police or judicial officer if there is no officer at the scene. The person may also leave the scene to seek medical assistance or provides a police officer with his name and address. A person who leaves the scene where a serious physical injury or death has occurred is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor for a first offense and a Class D felony for a second or subsequent offense.
This act is similar to SB 328 from the 1995 session.
