Current Bill Summary

SB 518 - This act increases the criminal penalty for making a false bomb threat from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class C felony. A Class C felony is punishable by up to seven years in prison. It also requires that any person convicted of making a false bomb threat since January 1, 1979 must register with the police. Registration information would be available to courts, prosecutors, law enforcement officials and current or prospective employers.

The registration procedures are based upon the registration requirements for sexual offenders pursuant to sections 566.600 to 566.625, RSMo. A person must register with police within fourteen days of coming into any new county. An agency in one county may request registration information from another county. Officials of the Department of Corrections shall notify an individual convicted of making a false bomb report of his possible duty to register with police.

In addition to the other registration requirements the offender must include the information or statement which constituted a false bomb report when he registers.

This act is similar to SB 535.
