Current Bill Summary

SCS/SB 573 - This act makes it legal for a person to possess marijuana if each of the following requirements is met:

1) A practitioner authorized to prescribe marijuana certifies in writing that the person is under the practitioner's care for a cancer, glaucoma, asthma, HIV/Aids, multiple sclerosis, paraplegia or quadriplegia; and 2) The practitioner certifies in writing that the person needs marijuana as a part of therapy.

The act also directs the Board of Curators of the University of Missouri to conduct a research study on the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes.

This act has a sunset clause which causes the provisions to expire December 31, 1999.

This act is similar to SB 457 from 1995.
