Current Bill Summary

SCS/SB 842 - This act grants certain arrest powers to federal law enforcement officers. A federal officer has authority to arrest a person: 1) for a violation of federal law; or 2) when one of the following conditions exists:

a) the federal officer has reasonable grounds to believe that a felony or other indictable has been committed;

b) the federal officer is assisting a state officer in an emergency or at the request of such state officer; or

c) the federal officer is making the arrest as part of a task force or joint investigation with state officers.

A federal officer acting pursuant to this act has the same immunity and defenses from suit as a state officer.
