To amend chapter 167, RSMo, by adding one new section relating to local school attendance.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI,

AS FOLLOWS:

Section A. Chapter 167, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section to be known as section 167.116, to read as follows:

167.116. Any resident pupil or the parent or guardian of a resident pupil in a district which is under a federal court order requiring school desegregation measures may request in writing that the pupil be allowed to attend the district school which is located closest to the pupil's residence. Requests to attend the closest school which are received on or before July 1 of a school year shall be given preference over other requests to attend a school, and other students shall be accepted for attendance at a school only after all requests to attend the closest school in the district which were received on or before July 1 of the school year have been satisfied.
