                              FISCAL ANALYSIS

ASSUMPTION

Officials of the Department of Highways & Transportation (DHT) indicate that
the addition of two commissioners would result in additional current annual
costs of $33,866 to the Highway Fund.  They base their calculations on total
costs in FY 1995 for six commissioners of $101,595, or $16,933 per
commissioner.

DESCRIPTION

This legislation would increase the number of members of the state highways
and transportation commission from six to eight members, and would also
revise the methods of selection of those members.

This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other
program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental
space.
