FISCAL ANALYSIS
ASSUMPTION
Officials from the Office of State Courts Administrator assume that the
proposed legislation would result in a small savings to each county and to
the City of St. Louis, although the exact amount of the savings is difficult
to determine at this time. Counties pay jurors and, within parameters, they
set the compensation, with $6 being the minimum daily compensation.
Depending upon the numbers called to serve in jury panels, the proposal could
save at least $22,400 and possibly as much as $67,000 in county costs using
FY 95 data. To any county, the potential savings would be proportionally
small.

DESCRIPTION
The proposed legislation would mandate eight member juries in cases tried
before associate circuit and circuit courts.
This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other
program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental
space.
