Married Patricia Ann Crowe, 1957. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Engaged in the retail lumber business in St. Louis.

Elected to the House: 1970 - 1974. Elected to the Senate: 1976-1992. Served as Senate President Pro Tem 1983-1988.
