Born March 17, 1957, in Kirksville. Educated at University of Missouri-Columbia (B.S. secondary education, J.D.).

Married to Sarah Maxwell. They have two children. Serves in the National Guard as lieutenant in the JAG corps.

Member: Laddonia Baptist Church; Mexico Jaycees; American Legion Post 510; Audrain County Cattlemen's Association; Farm Bureau; past president, Young Democratic Clubs of Missouri. Elected to the House: 1990-1992. elected to the Senate: 1994.
