Joint Interim Committee on Family Law
October 14, 1997
Senator Harold Caskey and Representative Pat Dougherty presiding
Witness:  Mr. Robert Buske, Father, Falcon, Missouri

MR. ROBERT BUSKE: In my case, I'm not married at the time, and I wasn't, but I have a young son, four months old, and I'm previously being taken to court for child support.

I believe fully in supporting your child. However, in my income bracket, the child support they're wanting is close to 50 percent, which leaves very little for someone making my wages to support a decent life, let alone have their child whenever equal time is allotted to give them a meaningful fulfilling time with the parent in question, and I just believe that some consideration like was just mentioned needs to be taken into the chart about certain brackets where certain income isn't quite as much to support a child, and that was my main concern.

DOUGHERTY: Thank you. Are there questions of this witness?

CASKEY: How much do you earn?

BUSKE: I earn $10.00 an hour.

     CASKEY: $10.00, per hour?

     BUSKE: Yes, Sir.

     CASKEY: 40 hour week?

BUSKE: My child support was charted on my last year's gross income, overtime and all, and this year, it's pretty much been 40 hours a week, the whole year.

CASKEY: How much are you ordered to pay?

     BUSKE: Excuse me?

CASKEY: What are you ordered to pay?

BUSKE: I haven't been ordered yet. We're still going through court, but, the amount they say they say they can get is $389.00, I believe, and then after the insurance is added on, and medical, etc., it comes to quite a bit.

     CASKEY: Thank you.

     DOUGHERTY: Thank you, very much.

     Mr. Roger Morton.
