DESCRIPTION
The proposed legislation would revise the Missouri Campaign Finance Reporting
law. Proposition A was adopted by initiative and approved by the voters on
November 8, 1994. This proposal would remove several provisions of
Proposition A, which include:
Penalties for exceeding voluntary contributions;
Contribution limits of $100, $200 and $300, depending on the office sought;
and
Spend-down of excess funds within 90 days after the election.
This proposal would also remove a prohibition against acceptance of
contributions by legislators and statewide officials and candidates for those
offices during a session of the General Assembly.
The proposed legislation would also modify the reporting requirements for
continuing committees that make expenditures, other than contributions, on
behalf of a candidate or candidates.
This legislation is not federally mandated, would not duplicate any other
program and would not require additional capital improvements or rental
space.
