BILL SUMMARIES

TRULY AGREED

HB 340 -- SEWER DISTRICTS

Current law requires a member of the governing body of a county
to be one of the 5 appointed trustees of a sewer district
board. This bill removes that requirement. This bill also
requires the advisory board for a subdistrict of a common sewer
district to consist of 5 members, each serving a 2 year term.
In Jackson County the bill allows the advisory board to be
compensated for reasonable expenses incurred in the performance
of their duties, but not to receive other compensation.

HB 340 -- SEWER DISTRICTS

SPONSOR: Pouche

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Local Government and Related Matters by a vote of 17 to 0.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this bill clarifies state law.
Sewage district boards were created by statute without
specifying the number of members or length of service. This
bill also removes the requirement that a county commissioner
serve on the board. Many commissioners do not want to serve on
a board they must appoint.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Pouche.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
