HB 700 -- OFFICIAL STATE EMBLEMS CO-SPONSORS: Legan, Williams (159) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Agri-business by a vote of 15 to 0. This bill designates the paddlefish as the official state aquatic animal and the catfish as the official state fish. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that their survey results indicate the paddlefish, indigenous exclusively to the Missouri River Valley, should be designated the state aquatic animal. The same survey indicated the catfish, Missouri ranking fifth in aquaculture production nationally, should be the state fish. Testifying for the bill were Representative Legan; Mark and David Vinyard and Robin and Clint Hayden, Mid-American 4-H Wildlife Club of Elkland.
