HB 734 -- GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION DAY

Currently, general municipal election day takes place on the
first Tuesday in April each year.  This bill changes the date to
the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April.

The bill also allows any county, city, town, or village to hold
an election on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in
August 1997.

The bill has an emergency clause.

on  Elections by a vote of 11 to 0.

This bill changes the date for the general municipal election

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the April municipal election
day is the only election not held on the first Tuesday after the
first Monday.  This bill would standardize the April election.
