HB 761 -- ELECTION COMMISSIONERS Currently, a first class county including any part of Kansas City (Jackson, Clay, and Platte) must establish a board of election commissioners as the election authority. This bill allows Cass County, which contains part of Kansas City, to maintain the county clerk as the election authority when it becomes a first class county.

HB 761 -- ELECTION COMMISSIONERS SPONSOR: Hartzler (123) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Elections by a vote of 16 to 0. This bill permits Cass County to retain the county clerk as the election authority or establish a board of election commissioners after becoming a first class county. FISCAL NOTE: Not available at time of printing. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that without this bill, election costs will increase for the citizens of Cass County without any enhancement of the current election process.
