COMMITTEE

HB 762 -- I.D. BADGES

CO-SPONSORS:  Davis (63), Shear

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee
on Public Health & Safety by a vote 16 to 0.

This bill requires all personnel providing services in hospitals
and health care facilities to wear identification badges that
prominently display their licensure status.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that it is most important that the
badges of hospital personnel display the licensure status so
that patients may know who is working on them. Nurses do so much
paper work in this era of managed care that others are cross--
trained to do some of their work at a cost savings to the
institution.

Testifying for the bill were Representatives Davis and Shear;
Missouri State Medical Association; Missouri Nurses Association;
and Missouri Hospital Association.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
