HB 827 -- PUBLIC SCHOOL AND NONTEACHER RETIREMENT SYSTEMS (Hagan-Harrell) Dental and vision benefits must be included in employer-paid medical benefits when calculating compensation for members of the public school and nonteachers' retirement systems. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.
HB 827 -- PUBLIC SCHOOL AND NONTEACHER RETIREMENT SYSTEMS SPONSOR: Hagan-Harrell COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Retirement by a vote of 7 to 0. Dental and vision benefits must be included in employer-paid medical benefits when calculating compensation for members of the public school and nonteachers' retirement systems. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill requires all school districts offering employer-paid medical benefits to count the value of dental and vision benefits as part of teacher and nonteacher compensation. The bill cleans up in the wake of the Savannah lawsuit; it resolves an equity issue and forestalls some large administrative burdens (like issuance of revised W-2 forms) that would result otherwise. Testifying for the bill were Representative Hagan-Harrell; Missouri National Education Association; and Missouri State Teachers Association. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Becky DeNeve, Research Analyst
