SB 229 - This act raises the compulsory attendance age for public schools, including for part-time school for employed persons and children who are parents, from age sixteen years to age eighteen years.
The act permits a school board to authorize the superintendent to assign or reassign a disruptive pupil to a special program for disruptive pupils. The act allows a school board to readmit a suspended pupil to the regular classroom or to a special program if the board determines that the suspension and other remedial actions will prevent future misconduct. The act includes an exception to the ban on readmission for pupils found to have committed certain serious crimes.
