HCS/SB 320 - This act pertains to certification of geologists. Current law provides that to be certified as a "registered geologist", a person must complete an application, graduate from an approved course of study, show documentation of three years of postbaccalaureate experience in geologic work and pass an exam covering the fundamentals, principles and practices of geology.

The course of study and experience requirements may be waived for applicants who: (1) are licensed professional engineers; (2) have provided the Board of Geologist Registration a summary of the actual geologic work demonstrating that the applicant has at least ten years of competent post baccalaureate experience in the practice of geology; (3) have made timely application and paid the applicable fees; and (4) have had their application denied by the Board solely for failure to meet the course of study requirements.

To be certified as a "geologist-registrant in-training", a person must complete an application and have graduated from an approved course of study and pass an exam covering the fundamentals of geology.
