HCS/SB 787 - This act requires the Department of Economic
Development to initiate five pilot community revitalization
projects in high poverty areas of the state. Two of the projects
are required to be in constitutional charter cities with a
population over two hundred thousand, one in a town or village,
one in a qualified community in an unincorporated area, and one
in a city of the third or fourth class. The projects are to be
centered around micro-economic development of community
resources, and the Department of Economic Development is required
to coordinate public and private resources to help develop
economic strategies to increase individual, family, and community
assets. A nine-member oversight committee shall be appointed by
the Director of the Department of Economic Development. The
projects are required to begin by July 1, 1999, but no project is
to be funded on or after July 1, 2004.
