Current Bill Summary

HCS/SB 787 - This act requires the Department of Economic Development to initiate five pilot community revitalization projects in high poverty areas of the state. Two of the projects are required to be in constitutional charter cities with a population over two hundred thousand, one in a town or village, one in a qualified community in an unincorporated area, and one in a city of the third or fourth class. The projects are to be centered around micro-economic development of community resources, and the Department of Economic Development is required to coordinate public and private resources to help develop economic strategies to increase individual, family, and community assets. A nine-member oversight committee shall be appointed by the Director of the Department of Economic Development. The projects are required to begin by July 1, 1999, but no project is to be funded on or after July 1, 2004.
