Current Bill Summary

SB 826 - This act requires that persons engaged in the professional practice of addictions counseling be licensed by the state as a professional addictions counselor or substance abuse counselor. The "State Board of Professional Addictions Counselors" is also established. This board shall consist of five public members and seven professional addictions counselors appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.

Applicants must meet specific application, education, experience, and examination criteria for licensure. The Division of Professional Registration shall collect application and examination fees to be deposited in the Professional Addictions Counselors' Fund. A violation of a provision within this act is a Class B misdemeanor.
