SJR 28 - This resolution would place a constitutional amendment before the voters which, if approved, would raise the maximum school operating levy which a school board may levy without voter approval from $1.25 to $2.00 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation and would raise the maximum school operating levy which can be approved by simple majority vote from $3.75 to $6.00 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation.
The resolution also provides that the school board of any
district whose operating levy has been set by court order for the
1995 tax year may set its operating levy at any value below the
current levy established under federal court order. Voter
approval would be required to go back to or above the court-
ordered rate.
