HB 1607 Modifies reemployment provisions regarding LAGERS members
Bill Summary
- Prepared by Senate Research -

SCS/HB 1607 - This act modifies provisions of retirement systems of political subdivisions.

Currently, a retirant under the Missouri Local Government Employees' Retirement System (LAGERS) who becomes reemployed in a position under LAGERS does not receive a retirement allowance while employed and does not accrue additional credited service or contribute to the system. This act removes the prohibitions against accruing additional credited service and making contributions, with contributions again due immediately upon reemployment.

This act also provides for an additional allowance for any reemployed retirant under LAGERS who has one or more years membership service after reemployment if such reemployment is less than the number of months determined for final average compensation by the governing body (either 36 months or 60 months, depending on which was chosen by the governing body).

Payment of any benefits and additional allowance under LAGERS shall be made commencing the first month after reemployment terminates. If the member retired under disability, such provisions shall apply.

This act modifies the definition of "employee" in the County Employees' Retirement System, which includes certain county election board employees and retirees.

This act also allows health insurance benefits for retired political subdivision employees in those political subdivisions which provide such benefits to employees.
