SCS/SB 871 - This act creates the crime of financial exploitation of the elderly. The crime is a Class A misdemeanor if the property or money converted has a value of $150 or less, and is a Class D felony if the value is over $150. When a person who has reasonable cause to believe that an eligible adult has been the victim of financial exploitation, such person may report or cause a report to be made to the Department of Social Services. Individuals who cooperate with such investigations (except those guilty of financial exploitation) are immune from civil and criminal liability.
