The Superintendent of the Highway Patrol may suspend a motor vehicle inspector for up to three years for violating the inspection law (currently one year suspensions are authorized). The Superintendent may appoint trained persons who are not members of the Highway Patrol to enforce the motor vehicle safety inspection laws.

The St. Louis vehicle emissions inspection program shall include a remote sensory clean screening testing program if the program causes no more than a 5% reduction in the state's emission credits and if permitted by the Environmental Protection Agency. A vehicle that is tested by remote sensory will not be required to have a separate vehicle emissions inspection if it meets standards.
